Starting a business can be exciting with lots of resources and tools available for promoting your startup business across different social media platforms makes it some what easy. Most people start out buying, running and boosting ads on Facebook and Instagram to reach a broader audience not having an idea how to reach their customers or where their customers are. Yes i have done some dumb things as well, and i still see most people doing this, spending money buying and boosting ads on Facebook and getting "LIKES"
Sadly these people think these "likes" is validation of their product or services. Likes are not the same thing as revenue and growth, they are two different thing. It can start from there but if there is no clear part for conversion and retention you might just be engaged in a work of art and soon run out of resources to keep these ads running and subsequently burn out.
Likes are deceptive and cannot be used as a metric to validate your business hypotheses or growth measurement.
PS: If you are into product development the above applies but if your are a social media influencer the number of likes and follower-ship can be used to measure user engagement and to some extent growth.
