GET SUCKED IN OR FIGHT YOUR WAY OUT

A couple of days ago fresh graduates who just completed the compulsory one year National Youth Service entered the already crowded and overwhelmed labour market. There were selfies, group photos and jubilation across all social media platforms. This is a major milestone in the lives of these young Nigerians and i join them in celebrating. But this happiness is short lived and the reality of finding something to do to start paying your own bills will set in.
The options here are pretty simple.
1. Get a job
2. Start a business
3. Do both 1 and 2
Option one seems to rank highest in the minds of these young ones, which of course is a less risker option but with the endless waiting list of job seekers, it is sort of a long short but with the right skill (employable) which most fresh graduates don't posses and some good connections you can find your way out of this crowd. in 2018 the Nigerian Police Force had opening for the recruitment of ten thousand (10,000) Police men and women, a total of about three hundred thousand (300,000) people applied for the opening. At a point in this country, graduates never really fancied being in the Police Force, the case is different today.
Option two involves some risk which with the right kind of information and guidance can be derisked while learning and experience starts early. Nine out of ten businesses will fail...Forbes.
Finally option three is almost impossible, considering the kind of economy that we have in Nigeria and the high failure rate of startup businesses, if this is your path, good luck with that.
Which ever option you are gunning for requires you to fight your way out of the crowd, there will be pushing and struggling but the best kind of push you can ever give is the skill/brain push. In this market, the pull is more than the push it gives, it is unforgiving, it pushes harder than you push, it's up to you to fight your way out...ON TIME.
