Businesses (product or service delivery) owners somehow find it difficult to separate the product or service(s) they provide from their person. They believe the world should love and care about them, what people really care about is the value you have promised to deliver and the hard earned money they have to pay for it. If your product or service sucks doesn’t mean the world hates you it simply means you have a dissatisfied customer on your hand, remember, business can be brutal and unforgiving.
Most businesses instead of improving on value delivery, make lame excuses why they can’t at every turn and expect paying customers to be empathic about their situation will undoubtedly end up offering mediocre service(s) and within a short time wind end up with a business existing in a state called “between the land of the living and the dead”.
The challenge is, most businesses unknowingly appraise the success of their business model by how bad a competition is doing. If this is you, then you are already offering mediocre service. The rule of thumb is, Never over promise and under-deliver, in my own opinion “under-promise” and then exceed customers’ expectation(s) and they will “love” you for that.
